Hello dear reader(s), it's your favorite Joo again.

Surprise - I found something to bitch about.

Black Friday sucks. People camping out overnight and trampling over
others just to save a couple of bucks. Funny how it comes after a day of
thanks. I'm all for saving a dollar (ok I'm all for saving a lot of
dollars) but at what expense? Is it worth getting up that early and/or
running around a store like a lunatic?

On the flip side, Small Business Saturday is something I can
totally get behind. People who are able to maintain a small business or
have the balls to start one never cease to amaze me.

Why should we be encouraged to shop at a small business one day out of
the year? It should be a yearly thing. Get out there and support these
people who need it a lot more than Starbucks.

PS: Thanks for all the birthday wishes. It was very hard waiting for a
call I knew wasn't going to come. Thank you to my family and friends for
being awesome. It makes me want to punch something.

That's silver-spooned Mets COO Jeff Wilpon shaking hands with future HOF and forever Mets killer Chipper Jones while admiring a painting that details all the exploits Jones had against Wilpon's Mets in his career.

WHAT.

THE.

FUCK.

“The body of work ... is very impressive,” Wilpon told Jones.
“Unfortunately, you’ve left a lot of Met fans’ hearts broken at times.”

Right - so let's rip off all those scabs and let Chipper pour salt into the wounds. And notice Jeff didn't say "MY HEART"? Fuck him.

From a business standpoint, it doesn't make sense. This is someone who either prevented you from getting to the playoffs or prevented you from advancing in the playoffs, which equals money you didn't make. You're honoring THAT?

I'm not saying just sit there and do nothing. Chipper Jones is a first ballot HOF player so he demands respect in that aspect. I will applaud him and rightfully so, but STOP with the showering of gifts.

Players retire every year. They don't get all the bells and whistles
Chipper is getting from every team (a surfboard from SD, the Braves flag
from Wrigley, etc.). Let's not act like it's Hank Aaron saying goodbye.
This is being done because Jones announced his retirement in March and
teams were able to prepare. Cal Ripken, Jr. never got anything, Tony Gwynn never got anything, so what's the difference?

And really I'm angry because it seems like once again the Mets treat a nemesis better than they do their own fans. This is a team that had no problem giving Mariano Rivera the pitching rubber from Citi Field after he got his 500th save there. Let me know when every paying customer receives their own painting and then we can discuss honoring someone who destroyed your seasons for over a decade and a half.

Maybe instead of honoring someone who treated your team like Bobby Cox treated his wife, maybe you can work on getting oh I don't know, a competitive team out there? Sollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192070809181087389noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1650427663944431570.post-87398978641125087772012-09-08T09:41:00.001-07:002012-09-08T09:41:11.352-07:00No Mas Burg

Various media outlets are reporting that Nationals manager Davey Johnson has informed ace and all around fucking stud Stephen Strasburg that his season is over, even before the rumored 180 IP limit.

I'm not in favor of shutting down an uninjured player but if you're going to, then make sure it's when you're having a typical Nats year, not one that has you fighting for the NL East title.

I've mentioned this a few times on my podcast Wait 'Til Next Year but I can't fathom how you would shut down a player of Strasburg's caliber when you're knocking on October's door.

I understand the basic idea of playing it safe when it comes to someone like Strasburg. His kind of talent doesn't come around every year and yeah, you should probably baby him and think more long term but NOT during a pennant race and not when he's pitching lights out and not showing any kind of injury.

What does that message say to the fans? Hey thanks for supporting us from April to September but when the games are really important, we're basically giving up. Same thing for the other Nationals players. Hey thanks for fighting it out and grinding through a tough but fun season, but come playoff time we're bringing a knife to a gunfight.

What are you protecting him from? He could take a line drive to the face as easily as he could hurt his arm. Grow some balls, roll the dice and send out your best possible players when the games mean the most.

A starting trio of Strasburg, Gonzalez, and Zimmermann could do some damage in a best of 5. Take Strasburg out and I have no idea what to expect.

The baseball fan in me is disappointed today. Farewell, Strasboner.

See you next year.

Thank God.Sollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192070809181087389noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1650427663944431570.post-76592908545962234352012-08-11T12:57:00.002-07:002012-08-11T13:23:05.395-07:00The Bay SituationI'm not a fan of Jason Bay. If you follow this blog, you know this. Anyone who's listened to me on my podcast is probably tired of hearing me bitch about him. Or just tired of hearing me, period, but whatever. I'm tired of it too.

He tries, he hustles, etc. I don't care how nice of a guy he is, he's still 10 pounds of shit stuffed into a 5 pound bag.

My problem is the situation - more specifically, the fact that the Mets are not playing with the best 25 options right now. This was the same problem with Oliver Perez, to the point where Jerry Manuel refused to pitch him for a month.

Maybe Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins are just
following orders, but stop trying to sell me on Bay regaining any chance of him being that player he was in Pittsburgh and Boston. He's done and so is this season.

Doesn't it kill those other players in the clubhouse that not only
does this slappy make more than them but he's not even being held
accountable for his failing? Why should I care about him platooning when
he doesn't even deserve a roster spot? How could you take Collins
seriously when he tried to rally the troops by not only starting Bay but hitting him 5th or 6th for as long as he did?

How can you send Lucas Duda or Kirk Nieuwenhuis to AAA while Bay still
gets to play in the major leagues? Yeah these guys are professionals but
what's that message you're sending to them? One little slump and you're
gone, while the guy hitting a buck fifty sticks around just because he
makes a fuckload of money?

It's easy for me to tell the Wilpons what they should do with their money (it's also easy for me to tell them to go fuck themselves with a giant fucking elephant cock), as I know simply releasing Bay and eating the remaining $16M on his contract (plus the $3M buyout) isn't an easy thing to do. Especially when Alderson did the same with Perez and Luis Castillo a year ago. It sucks paying a guy $19M just to not be around, I get that. But he offers no value right now. None. Any kind of upside or trade value is gone and he needs to be released immediately.

Start fresh next year and win or lose with your best 25.

Hot Garbage.
I don't remember the context in which he said it, and since it's Justin, it doesn't really matter.

Point is, I was thinking of that term last night when I was at Petco Park watching the Padres host the Mets (with both teams wearing AWESOME 1989 retro jerseys).
The old saying goes "You root for the laundry"... well last night I literally was rooting for the laundry, as the '89 jersey was the only reason (outside of Dickey) to crack a smile last night. Not that 1989 was a fun year, with the Mets trading Lenny Dykstra to the Phils the SAME fucking day we headed to Philly to watch them play. True story.

Dykstra, Wilson, Carter, and Hernandez all left after '89... remind me again why the Mets agreed to play along with the Padres on this one?

Anyway, hot garbage time. R.A. Dickey pitched very well but was the victim of some putrid defense behind him. I'm looking at you, Scott Hairston and Josh Thole.

Hairston is what he is, a glorified bench player in his walk year. But at least he offers something with his bat. Thole brings nothing to the table except a giant pair of pussy lips. I'm not asking for Johnny Bench but at least hold on to the fucking ball when a runner is trying to break up a 1-1 tie. Easy for me to scream at Thole (and I did) while pudgy Carlos Quentin is colliding with him, but it's Thole's job to make the play, especially when Quentin was out by 15 feet.

And if the offense decided to score more than 1 run on 9 fucking hits, that would have been swell. I know it was '80s night but that wasn't Mark Davis on the mound, it was Clayton Fucking Richard. Outside of Hairston, they're getting no production from their outfield and their catcher position is the biggest black hole since Oprah's snatch. If Wright and Davis are cold, this lineup is DEAD.

Dickey deserved better. This was a winnable game against an awful team. No more hot garbage, please.

Sloppy isn't even the right word. Ugly, lazy, disrespectful, pretty much everything Mrs. Bender said to Mr. Bender, according to their son John. Go to the two minute mark here.

Not one but TWO three-base errors in the same inning. One is rare but two? Unheard of and there's no excuse for it, especially not the one of having to play Sunday Night Baseball.

TC - I like you, I think you're a good guy even if you don't bring in Byrdak to face Cano and leave Miguel Fucking Batista in for multiple innings, but I can't defend what you said. It's YOUR job to prepare your team for every game. When you predict a sluggish game and it happens, that's on you, little man.

Plenty of teams play Sunday Night Baseball and don't shit the bed the next night.

Three errors and the offense makes Travis Wood look like Wilbur Wood. In a fucking Johan start. Against the Cubs, a team that will probably lose 100 games this year.

This had "gimme" written all over it but I never thought it would have been for the Cubbies. Fucking garbage.

I wrote earlier in the week how I've been spoiled with other sports. You can call me a dick, but I know how to react to my team winning the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, and at one time, the World Series. But I have no idea how to react to a no-hitter by the Mets. Over 8,000 games and a pitching lineage of Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, Cone, Pedro, and it never happened. It's fitting that someone of Santana's caliber finally got it done. Miguel Batista getting the franchise's first no-hitter just seems wrong but almost expected, given the craziness that has surrounded this team since 1962.

But it happened last night and I still can't believe it. No matter what happens the rest of the season (and who knows what to expect from Johan after a career-high 134 pitches), nothing or no one can take away the experience of finally seeing something I thought would never happen.

It's always nice when a team that was hitting a robust .220 comes into Citi Field and scores 11 runs and bangs out 18 hits. Petco or not, .220 is still .220 and this is a team that's 28th in average, 29th in runs scored, and DEAD FUCKING LAST in slugging. More proof that the Mets pitching is the common cure for any batting slump.

That said, if SD's ownership ever gave a shit about payroll, they could contend in that division. They have a pretty decent core of Maybin, Alonso, and Headley. Volquez, Bass, and Luebke have the makings of a good rotation. It's a nice start but not enough.

As for the Mets, David Wright had three more hits and is now hitting .405. Suck my dick, Matt Cain.

Three more against the Friars, including Banner Day on Sunday. Nope, not jealous about that at all.
I don't really see myself as a writer so I guess I just had "block."

I don't think I've missed much with my daily Mets recaps, with them going 6-7 during my hiatus. More on them later.

My post tonight is going to deal with my other two teams - the New York Giants and the New Jersey Devils.

It's funny that the team I love the most of the three has been the least successful in terms of championships. The Mets have only won the World Series twice (Pre-Joo in 1969, and of course in 1986) while the Giants have won the Super Bowl four times, and the Devils have skated with the Stanley Cup three times.

What amazes me is not just how many times they've won but WHEN they won. Sure the Mets won in 1986 but I was on the verge of turning 11 and not really getting baseball. The Giants not only won in the 1986 season but also the 1990 season (thanks Norwood), as well as the recent triumphs over the fucking Patriots. The Devils won in 1995 (the lockout really soured me on hockey) and in 2000 and 2003, so you could say my "adult" life has been blessed in terms of football and hockey. Shit, the Devils are two wins away from ANOTHER Stanley Cup finals.

I absolutely feel spoiled when it comes to those two sports. Not that I don't relish the victories but a Mets WS win is going to be that much sweeter if and when it happens again. I don't know much but I know Frank Francisco won't be around when it does. Fuck that guy with Thor's hammer. And his cock.

No problem!Admittedly, I had one eye on the Mets and the other on the Devils-Flyers game. Both wound up having very exciting results. The Devils won 3-1 to move on to the Eastern Conference Finals where the Mets beat up on yet another Philadelphia team. The Phillies had a quick 4-0 start and I figured this was done early. Most of the night it was, until the Mets exploded for four two-out runs to tie it in the top of 7th. Some choppy Philly defense led to that 5th tie-breaking run and then Nieuwenhuis and Duda added a pair of RBIs in the 9th to make it 7-4. More than enough for this bullpen. 4 shutout innings last night, another 4 shutout innings tonight. You just never know with these guys but I love that they never quit, no matter who they're playing.

Jordany Valdespin played the hero role tonight, slamming a pinch hit 3-run HR off Jonathan Papelbon to lead the Mets to a come from behind 5-2 win over the Phillies.
Jon Niese was on the ropes most of the night but the Phillies couldn't put him away, and he left the game after only giving up two runs over five innings. Considering he threw 101 pitches, he's lucky the score wasn't worse.

The bullpen came up huge in a couple of tough spots, including a bases loaded jam when Hunter Pence hit into a routine 6-4-3 interference play. Fuck Victorino and his "who, me?" attitude. You're a dirty, whiny little bitch.
I know it's May but this was a fun win.

Best 3-day weekend of all-time ($207M)

Fastest to $100M, $150M, and $200M

Highest per-theater average

Highest IMAX debut ($15M)

I've always dug box office numbers, being a hook-nose Joo and all, but I'm reading into them with a grain of salt.

Tickets are more expensive today, plus you have to factor in 3D and IMAX prices.

It was a great popcorn movie, a nice way to kick off the summer, but stop with all the "biggest movie of all-time" shit. When it's all said and done, I don't think "The Avengers" will be topping this list.Sollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192070809181087389noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1650427663944431570.post-14104138555255182012-05-06T21:50:00.000-07:002012-05-06T21:50:29.879-07:00Reliable DickeyVery nice game today. Dickey's been so automatic the last couple of years that I'm running out of things to say about him.

He pitched into the 9th and the offense did just enough to wind up taking the series from Arizona. If not for well, Ike, this could have been a sweep.
What's the point? Why in today's age of technology should I be limited to a regional game? Shouldn't fans be encouraged to watch teams they normally wouldn't? Don't force the Brewers-Giants game on me, give me a choice of what to watch. The Orioles are playing well, I'd love to watch them on a Saturday afternoon. Fuck you MLB, for ditching your nationally televised Game of the Week in favor of a quick buck from Fox. And fuck you Fox, for telling me what I should watch and blacking out everything else. Fuck you with the rustiest of nails.

It's 2012 - give us the choice or at least give us a non-regional game. That's how you promote the game. That's how you promote teams not named the Yankees or Red Sox.

At least with football, I can find a link (that might or might not be legal) to the Giants game. But with Saturday baseball, Fox clamps down like a fucking pitbull. I wound up streaming the audio from today's Dbacks-Mets game, and while I love the WFAN coverage, give me the choice of TV or radio. I paid for MLB.tv, I should get the tv part every single day.

Anyway, as for today's game... the Mets scored four runs for Johan Santana for the second straight start and the bullpen actually saved this one, earning Santana his first win since September of 2010. I stand corrected on Andres Torres - he's been outstanding since his return from the DL. He's played in five games and had a hit & RBI in all five.

If you can get a scoreless inning out of Manny F. Acosta, why push your luck by sending him out there for another inning? I understand you ideally want Rauch out there with a lead to protect, but what's the difference? It's the fucking Astros. I'm pretty sure Rauch could handle a lead or a tie game.

As for the offense, I don't know what Andres Torres bring to this team. Nieuwenhuis is sticking around at the leadoff spot, and rightfully so... so I don't know what Torres can do hitting 7th. Or 8th. Or 9th. Or 1st through 6th in the order. Sorry, just not a fan of another AAAA outfielder masquerading as a legit ballplayer. God knows the Mets have had enough of those over the years.
Still, to finish April not only over .500, but three games over was a very nice surprise. Let's see what May brings.

Oops.

To quote the late great Chris Penn in "Reservoir Dogs", first thing's fuckin' last. Dillon Gee provided a nice bounce back game on Saturday, giving up four runs in seven innings and Lucas Duda supplied the offense with four RBI. Tejada, Murphy, and Wright also contributed with three hits each.

Now let's get to today's game. Santana was in cruise control, going 6 scoreless on 90 pitches. The offense knocked Jamie Moyer around but couldn't land the knockout blow. I could bitch about the high LOB number but a 4-0 lead is still 4-0 and it SHOULD have been enough.

Here's my problem. The Mets bullpen got fucking TORCHED on Friday, so wouldn't it have made sense not to go to them again so quickly, especially with a dominant Santana on the mound? I know he's coming off an injury but let's not act like 90 pitches is 120.

So of course, the inevitable happens. The Rockies load up the bases in the 8th before Deer Meat Lover Todd Helton hits a game-tying PH slam off Tim Byrdak.

The Mets fight back and score a run in the top of the 9th before Frank Fuckcisco grooved up a game-tying HR to Carlos Gonzalez. Again, why is a team that's pinching pennies handing out two-year deals to failed closers? I'll never understand that.

The Mets wound up winning the game in the 10th but this was the rare win that just annoyed me. It shouldn't have been this close, it should have been a nice easy Sunday rocking chair-type win.

David Wright became the Mets' all-time RBI leader tonight with a key HR that snapped a 1-1 tie against the Marlins. OK, Straw's 733 isn't a huge number but it's a testament to Wright's impact with the team since his arrival in 2004. I hope he can stick around for a few more, unlike Darryl.
Another great game by Dickey, he's become Mr. Automatic. The Mets don't have much, but that's a pretty solid 1-3 in the rotation with Santana, Dickey, and Niese.
but damn it, can anyone buy Johan Santana a run, let alone a win?
Christ on a crutch, I scored more in high school than the Mets have for #57 this year. I know he's matched against other aces but scratch out a run or two for him sometime.
Johan
was fucking DEALING tonight. 6.2 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 11 Ks, with
that one run coming at the hands of shitty Met defense AGAIN (sounds

Santana has no wins, Jon Rauch has 3... which again goes to prove that W-L is one of the most worthless stats for a pitcher.
When does one officially become
worried about Strike Davis? Another 0 for 2 tonight and it got to the point
where Terry Collins had to send up Justin Turner for him in the 7th. Slumps are slumps, I just hope he's not hurt.
And speaking of hurt, I'm sorry to see Bay AND Pelfrey land on the DL. Yeah part of it is addition by subtraction but I was hoping Pelf could turn it around.
